Hospitality House

Dear Citizens of Walled Lake,

Do you think people should give time to help the homeless or needy? I know so, what if you needed food. All people should give time and food to charities.
I went to the Hospitality House last week along with 78 of my fellow 5th graders; together we raised 970 pounds of food. If you think that is a lot of food, the Hospitality House has already given almost 300,000 lbs. to about 600 families per month in Walled Lake alone. That is a lot of food! Hospitality house has fed 10,900 people from September to January of this year, many of whom are children.
A lot of people are losing their jobs because the economy is bad. A big amount of people can’t afford food for their whole family. Many people have to make a choice between paying for their house and buying food for their family. I can’t believe how hard of a decision that would be. If you had to make this decision, what would you pick? I would buy food. Thankfully local Hospitality Houses provide free food for needy families so they don’t have to make that decision.
Many people can’t afford their everyday needs. Sometimes the hospitality house can run out of food. So if you were needy how would you feel if they ran out of food? This is why everyone should donate food to local charities.
Why not donate food? If you can afford it, you could donate just a little; it can help people out more than you know. So open your heart and help the needy by donating food.

Sincerely,

Drew S
